CH Group was directly involved in the development of the building classification of Class 9c that was adopted into the Building Code of Australia (BCA) in 2002.
Peter Chenoweth, Director of CH Group was appointed to the joint Australian Building Codes Board and Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing Working Party to develop a building classification that allowed for Ageing in Place. Paul Bailey, Associate at CH Group was the Chairman of the Working Party whilst employed by the Australian Building Codes Board. The outcome of the Working Party was the development of the BCA Class 9c Ageing in Place building classification.
Class 9c conversion reports are offered for existing Class 3 buildings, which may accommodate aged persons who, due to varying degrees of incapacity associated with the ageing process, are provided with personal care services and 24 hour staff assistance to evacuate the building during emergency. If this is the case, a change of classification may be necessary to comply with State building regulation requirements.
We provide a detailed report based on our specialist designed 67 page checklist that provides a clear summary, advice on building solutions, capital works programming, photographs and field notes marked on floor plans. Recommendations for building upgrade works and alternative building solutions can form a brief to design consultants engaged to implement a Class 9c conversion.
